Who wants to be a Superhero?
Consider for a moment kids that you know… I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of amazingly youthful churches full of young families, and each week I walk in, there is a Princess all dressed up, Spiderman running around, Superman trying to take the snacks from all the babies… Little girls in tutu’s looking gorgeous and dancing like no one is watching ;-)
It’s a beautiful thing that I believe is in the heart of each one of us… To dance like no one is watching, to sing with the hairbrush and not worry about how you sound ;-) yep I’ve been there!!!! BEEN there… the truth be known I’m still there or at least on the journey… You see as we get older, we become more sophisticated and our layers start to thicken because we’ve been told that ‘We need to grow up!’ ‘Be real’ Be an example to our younger siblings/others’ ‘Work hard, get a good education’ ‘Ohhhh you’re not clever enough to do that, you need to lower your sights’ ‘Sssshhhh be quiet’
Sophisticated: (verb) to make less natural, simple or ingenuous; make worldly-wise… (adjective) deceptive, misleading, knowledgable…Errrmmmm is this really something you want to grow more into?
I love having kids around me, they remind me to be more child-like… My husband Esteban is a big kid, I enjoy his carefree nature and the simplicity he has introduced into my world! I’m grateful every time he reminds me not to take myself too seriously.
Isn't it interesting that it is completely normal and natural for children to think about how great they are and what they want to become? They live with such hope and confidence about what is possible in their lifetime. Sadly, once logic and reason begin to develop in them, their confidence tends to wane. Many call it reaching maturity, but it is really the slow death of what was meant to be.
We need to break free from the constraints of "normal" thinking...
When I think of the kids in my life... I see adventure, a daring that we tend to lose as we get older... They come to our house... "can we get your trampoline out Auntie Helen?" When we go to the beach... "How about this stone? Let's see how far we can skim it!!" Stepping in for big sis... "Please do a bungee jump with me!!!" Movie Time.... "Can we watch Shrek, pllleeaassse". It is normal and natural that they would want to do something crazy and fun... No one tells them to do it, but with some people they sense/have a knowing that they have permission with us as we step out more into who we were created to be.
In Our Heavenly Father's kingdom there is only one direction to go and that is from glory to glory away from the worlds sophistication’s and labels and step more into an unshakeable childlike faith.
I believe that God's intended design called for us to be the boldest, most confident, fun loving, out of the box thinkers on this planet. The kind of people whom are fully present and aware of who they are...
Want to know how you can step into becoming more childlike and carefree?
